| Marion (Hardy) has written to us from Australia:- |
| Dear Willy,
Oh what a lot of memories you have brought back - I came upon the site by accident and nearly fell through the floor at all the information you had collated. Strangely enough about an hour beforehand I was trying to recollect some of the names of the members of the Wimborne Young Communicants (I was the secretary of that group for a period - I can remember we decided to call ourselves that because it meant we got the use of the Church Hall free!!) - and I could remember Gerry - but not his surname - and Pam Cutler. The Griffin Hotel was well known to me as well - my best friend was Susan Horton - we still exchange cards at Christmas (she now lives in the United States) and yes the sisters were Lyn and Christine. One of the diagrams is a little at odds with my memory but I shall have to look at them again - it was just so amazing to see them! I'm surprised you didn't have the pony in the photo as well - she was called Chestnut I believe. I have many photos of QEGS but not until around 1955 - I think there are three or four sets and I keep meaning to scan them and put them on the system but so far have not got around to it!! Somewhere I also have some other photos of the floats we were in but they are hidden away at the bottom of the pile - I shall have to try and find them. The first float I can remember was a Jazz float - Sue Horton and I were on that one with Bill Hayley's "See You Later Alligator" rocking out - but we had a band in front and a band at the rear (very convenient)! The photo of the room in Toc H also brought back memories as my father was a leading Toc H member - they had rooms downstairs that they let groups such as WYG use on occasions if they were not being used by Toc H. We shall be going back to Wimborne for a final visit this year so will have a good look around and see how much has changed since our last visit. (We are currently living in Perth - Western Australia) Once again - congratulations - and thank you for the memories! Marion Wimsett (nee Hardy) - and for anyone that remembers I was Winkle Hardy's daughter!! |
