Is the old memory fading? This is the page to ask questions
which perhaps someone else can answer.
We hired a coach and went to London to see the stage show "the Pyjama Game" When was that? Anyone remember anything about the event? - Willy
What is this? Can you help?

What on earth!

Angela (Millard) has sent in this photo.

What is it?

When was it?

All we can work out is that the "thing" is passing the Catholic Church. Any ideas?

Re. the above photo :- Richard reckons that's Bunny Williams on the bike at the rear. He also points out that the person in the foreground is holding the WYG flag, which should date it as we didn't have a flag for quite a while.
Did Mr Flory (Pam's father) hold our Post Office account as we weren't old enough? - Richard
The revolving billiard table? - Richard
Anyone remember "meeting Father Christmas" from the railway station, was there a band? Then returning with him to Church House to open our Jumble Sale? - Richard
Have just (August 2004) received a poster for the Comic Football Match from the Gabby Archive and see there was a parade from the station to the Field. Perhaps that is what you are confusing it with - Willy.
Norman Trinkle wants to know if any one else remembers the Fancy Dress party we held in Church House in the early years of the Group?
I have vague memories of a party in a room in a pub in the Cornmarket - Any ideas?- Willy
Alan Hollick remembers at least one Beatle Drive being held in Church House. He thinks this was part of Gabby's "Week of Events" Can any one else remember this week? According to Alan this week also included a Silent Film Show, also in Church House, with Peter (Larry) Lambourne at the piano.
Alan also mentions the WYG Christmas Cards which Gabby had printed with the WYG logo and which didn't sell and were "about for many years"
Mary Collins asks about some outings :-
  • Does anyone else remember the club going to "Guys and Dolls" at the Pavilion, Bournemouth in 1955 or 56?.
  • Or joining with the "Young Communicants" to attend New Year's Eve midnight service at the Minster? The group left to go there from our clubrooms at Allanbrook.
  • And Carol Singing in an old people's home. She has memories of visiting "a dismal drab Victorian building in Eastboro".

Pirates

And here's another puzzle photo. Sent in by Alan Hollick. It would appear to be members dressed up in fancy dress and lugging a piano (ours?) on a trolley. The people are carrying collecting boxes and there is a notice hanging from the piano but I can't make it out. I have left the photo uncropped to include the houses as some-one might recognize the location. What was this all about? Any thoughts?

Re the above photo Richard writes in December 2004:- I'm sure they are RAFA members, who asked us to join/help them and I think the banner carrier is John Richmond. They are pulling a barrel-organ that used often to be "wheeled out" for street collections and often "parked" in the Square before Christmas. I've also a feeling that the photo was taken between Grove Road and Rodway's garage travelling west - well maybe ! Can anyone date this event? Willy
