THE PARTY 4th AUGUST 1951 (No idea who wrote this - Willy)
The Party will remain a date to remember. The company was somewhat depleted owing to the fact that many of our members and their families were away on holiday at the time, but those that remained turned up in force to support the Group on this happy occasion. The details of the party have been most adequately reported in the local press and I do not intend in this Group account to give a "newspaper'' report of the event, but something also of the things that one will recollect.

The weather of the day held as we kicked off slightly late with a team race of members, who complete with a plate on top of the head, a tennis ball between their knees and swinging a walking stick had to complete a course round the hall. This was followed by a dance, and then a talking competition, which I hold would have been still going today had we fought the semi-finalists out. Then with three victims outside the room a mime was enacted to the fourth that was repeated by him in turn to the next. The story of a doctor being called out in the night finished up with a man going to his office on a motor-cycle. Before the company descended to supper there was some entertainment provided by the theatrical section. A Group "Brains Trust" proved that it was "Folly to be Wise", and "Spud" (P.B. Taylor.) gave us an admirable impression of "The First Cigarette". After supper as a conclusion Alan gave us a second edition of "Noise and His Chanderliers". It is practically impossible to write an account, or indeed to account for what happened, it has to be seen to be believed, and in any case the audience ware all too busy laughing.

The ceremony of the occasion followed supper, provided and catered for by a small committee of the Parents and
Friends League, firstly with the lighting of the candles and cutting of Alan's Twenty-First Birthday Cake. Pam Flory then presented the Group Gift of a fountain pen and propelling pencil set. The Chairman of the Group, who presided at supper then proposed the toast of his health to which Alan responded recalling his recollections of his connection with the Group.

It was then of the Chairman, Michael G. Habgood (Gabby.) to step down from the chair for the presentation of the Foundation Memberships to Alan and himself, for their services to the Group since they founded it in November, 1948. The scrolls bearing the signatures of the officials of the Group were sealed with the Youth Group crest and ribbons of the Group colours. Before resuming the chair Michael thanked the Group and expressed the hope of many further years of active and useful association with the Group.
Richard Curtis, P.R.O., then proposed a vote of thanks to Mr. Flory stating that his 'unswerving interest in us did much to uphold the organization, and hoped that with the co-operation of the Group and those Parents and Friends who had joined the League, Mr. Flory would be able to bring the League to be an integral part of the organization.

Peter Taylor then proposed the toast of the Visitors, saying how much the Group depended upon it's public support, thanking the Visitors for their attendance, and looking forward to further such functions in the future. The response came from Mr. J.C.Taylor, who said how pleased he was to note that Wimborne Youth Group was such a "live" organization and how much good work was done within its framework.

The privilege of proposing the toast of the Group fell to Brian Willis, W. Y.G. Storeman, recalling the activities of the organization since formation he pointed out the snags to progress, particularly he mentioned our accommodation. Everything had been done, he stated, to the present premises but premises for use as clubrooms were an essential and until found would be bound to hamper us. At all times, of course he said increased membership and financial support would be welcomed.

During the supper the scrapbook of the Group maintained by the P.R. 0. of the Group, and which now contains some 50 pages of newspaper cuttings of Group activities, was passed round and the autographs of the entire company collected.

The Group wish to send their thanks to all the persons who contributed so whole-heartedly to make the evening an outstanding success.

P A N T 0 M I M E AHOY.

Production of the Nitwit's new Pantomime 'Rumpelstiltskin is already underway. All preliminary arrangements are now being worked out and it is proposed to give the Show an Eleven-day run in the week prior to and immediately after Christmas. Proceeds are to be in aid of the W.T.G. Building Fund.

Rehearsals commenced in the latter days of July and half the cast is already selected. The producers hope to settle all the cast by mid-September. The Group Societies are now organising themselves to support this, probably one of the biggest Youth Group effort.

Rumpelstiltskin has a cast of eighteen excluding the chorus, fairies and numerous other extras., and the Music Society of the Group hope to provide a small orchestra for the production.

The duration of the show which includes nine scenes is estimated at two and a half hours. Anyone who can offer any assistance to the Group in any way should contact the Secretary.

This Show never took place, although there is the complete script amongst the Gabby Archives - Willy
