The "Socials" in Church House

I think the "Social" was a series of get-togethers held weekly in the little room downstairs at the back of Church House. I think these meetings were a follow-on from the gathering together of the people for the Panto cast and the desire to keep the group intact.

Now, whether it was as part of one of these social evenings or not, I am not sure but I can remember one evening we all gathered in a semi circle to hear Richard play his clarinet. He was playing well and we were listening in genuine awe at his virtuosity, when in came the little lady caretaker (Richard reminds me it was Mrs. Tucker) who greeted us and then proceeded to shovel coal on the open fire whilst Richard gamely carried on playing.
