GETTING IN
Richard says ...Entry was from three different places - initially through Gabby's dad's garage - we had to collect and return the keys, unlock the garage, scrape past the car, and up the ladder attached to the wall and push open the trap-door. Second stage was to construct a ladder and enter from the loft-door - exposed and dangerous [the door opened outwards - the ladder had to be placed to the left and it was a matter of un-locking and opening the door then stepping across [day or night, wet or dry]. The third entry was finally from a new trapdoor that we cut in the back left corner with an undercover angled ladder. We were able to enter through a doorway without a door in the side wall.

(Alan Hollick remembers he and John Webley made that ladder and when we had it beside the upstairs door some "clever person" took it away on one or two occasions and Alan had to leap from that floor onto the ground to retrieve it.)

THE HOLLY TREE, BIKE SHED AND WINDOW
Richard says .....The bike shed was built against the side wall. The holly tree next to Mrs McDowell's wall wasn't very good for berries but we cut sprigs to decorate the Stores. The Stores window was originally wire-netting but we put in a sheet of Perspex.
INSIDE THE STORES.
Richard ponders.....What did we sit on in the stores? - a sofa, a pouffe, a woven cane chair? Then there was the ...black two-door filing cabinet, orange box library.old wind-up gramophone, coconut matting. Did we have pictures ? Then there was the umbrella stand and the hopes we had that somebody would arrive with an umbrella and use it ! (And here follows some of the answers Richard- Willy)
Gerry' s memories of the Stores layout
Gerry Chapple offers this, his memory of the layout.
OK then, Who did live next door? Mrs. McDowell or the Argents? - Willy

Interior of Stores
PH 55
Another of Alan Hollick's photos. This shows the interior of the Stores before it was renovated and split up into a clubroom/store/workshop. He points out that it looks as if this is the start of jumble collection. Things of interest reading from left:- Is that the umbrella stand Richard mentions? (Yes - Richard) Does the long handle belong to the hand operated vacuum cleaner? The holes in the roof. The books with I do believe includes the huge notorious Mrs Webster's Dictionary. And on the far right the trapdoor and ladder leading down into Mr Habgood's garage below. - Willy
